Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Newfoundland Diagnostics [Newfoundland] is committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by the year 2045.

• We recognize the importance of reducing our environmental impact and contributing to the UK government’s target of achieving a carbon-neutral economy.

• This Carbon Reduction Plan outlines our strategy and ongoing actions to meet this objective.

Newfoundland is not required to report under the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework, as we do not meet the statutory thresholds. However, we recognize the importance of transparency in our environmental impact and are committed to contributing to the UK's net-zero goals. As such, we have voluntarily calculated and reported our best estimates of energy use and carbon emissions for Scope 1 and 2, which are detailed below:

Current Carbon Footprint 2023 (Baseline Emissions)

Our baseline year for measuring carbon emissions is 2023, and the emissions data below serves as a benchmark for measuring reductions in future years. In future we wish to include Scope 3 to get a more accurate picture.

Scope 1 – Direct Emissions: (kg CO2e)

  • Sites: 0
  • Company Vehicles: 0

Scope 2 – Indirect Emissions: (kg CO2e)

  • Sites: 1,322
  • Company Vehicles*: 23

Total Emissions for Baseline Year: 1345 (kg CO2e)

*Renewable powered vehicles only

Carbon Reduction Targets

In line with the UK’s 2050 Net Zero target, Newfoundland Diagnostics has set the following targets:

  • By 2025: Reduce our carbon emissions by 15% from baseline levels.
  • By 2030: Achieve a reduction of 40% from baseline levels.
  • By 2050: Achieve Net Zero carbon emissions.

Carbon Reduction Projects

To achieve these targets, we have implemented and are planning the following initiatives:

Energy Efficiency Improvements:

  • Office Energy Consumption: We aim to increase the energy efficiency of our office space by working with our provider to utilise 100% renewable energy by 2030.
  • Remote Working Policies: Continuing flexible working practices to reduce employee commuting, thus decreasing overall carbon emissions from transportation.

Sustainable Transportation:

  • Fleet Transition: Any company-owned vehicles are currently to be electric or hybrid vehicles.
  • Business Travel Reduction: Encouraging the use of virtual meetings and reducing non-essential business travel, particularly flights. For necessary travel, we encourage the use of low-carbon transportation (e.g., rail travel).
  • Cycle to Work Scheme: Implemented and encouraged among employees.

Supply Chain & Logistics:

  • Working with all suppliers to reduce carbon emissions, seeking to actively track and manage Scope 3 emissions.

Waste Management:

  • We are exploring opportunities to shift to eco-friendly packaging and more sustainable practices with suppliers.
  • Office recycling and paperless office policies.

Employee Engagement and Education:

  • Carbon Literacy Training: We will engage staff through training programs on sustainability and carbon reduction best practices, encouraging them to contribute actively to reducing emissions.
  • Green Office Initiatives: Promoting low-impact behaviours like reducing energy consumption, utilizing reusable products, and encouraging public or active transport.

Carbon Emissions Reporting

Newfoundland Diagnostics will report on our progress towards reducing carbon emissions annually. This will include:

  • Annual carbon audits to assess emissions across Scope 1, 2, and eventually 3.
  • Publicly available progress reports published on our company website

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

Newfoundland Diagnostics will continuously monitor our progress, assess the effectiveness of our carbon reduction initiatives, and update our strategy as necessary. We will review this Carbon Reduction Plan annually and adjust targets and actions based on performance, new technology, and regulatory changes.
